I'm Assistant Professor of Computational Linguistics at Utrecht University. Before that I Before that I did my PhD in Linguistics at UC Santa Cruz and a postdoc at the Institute for Logic, Language, and Computation at the University of Amsterdam.
In my research, I aim to understand interactions between literal meaning of linguistic expressions (semantics) and additional meaning those expressions convey when used in real-world contexts (pragmatics). Some perennial obsessions include clause-embedding, discourse particles, the interpretation of biased questions, tense/aspect, and pragmatic and ethical questions concerning internet speech.
